We love working with glass! We bring our labors of love to you....we hope you enjoy them and they bring some color, fun,
and fancy to your life!
Dichroic glass is an amazing glass product originally developed by space and photo industries and now has fortunately
hit the artistic world! It is used to create some spectacular glass art pieces of jewelry, vases, dishes, etc. Dichroic glass
by definition is "the property of a surface of reflecting light of one color and transmitting light of other colors".
You see one color when looking through the glass and another when looking directly at it or at an angle. Dichroic glass is
made by depositing thin layers of metal oxides, minerals, and other substances (such as gold, silver, copper, magnesium etc.)
onto a glass substrate in the presence of a vacuum. It is a complex, proprietary, and technical process...and the result is
a wonderful display of color on the surface of the glass. In the artists hands it turns into a spectacular display of art...with
sparkle and life!
Word of caution...the colorful displays can be mesmerizing! Many pendants and cabochons have several layers of color
and sparkle that change color depending on the angle of the light. Many have their own little worlds going on...so you can
easily get lost in their fascinating effects (like we did)!
All our glass products are made of art glass and dichroic glass that is fused, shaped, re-fused, and annealed for strength.
Many have several grinding steps to shape them. Most go through several stages in the kiln firing at 1350-1700 degrees f to
obtain the desired shapes, colors, and final design. Items are worked to minimize roughness and minimize bubbles. Some dichroic
layers we have left on the surface to display their fullest color as part of a striking design. Others are finished or re-fired
with clear top glass- these sparkle and have added depth and light effects of their own. Some will be very smooth to the touch
while others will have more texture to the surface. All stages of our products are finished with a lot of hand-made labor,
attention to detail, and a lot of love!
Important Note: Our glass products are surprisingly rugged...about the strength of ceramic...but it is not recommended
to drop or bang them please...they can break! We do not recommend sonic jewelry cleaners for our jewelry, nor dishwasher for
our larger products (i.e. vases, bowls, and dishes, etc.). Just gently wipe them with soft cloth. You may use a mild dilute
soap if necessary then rinse and wipe dry.
