We LOVE working with glass!
We work & play in fused glass and silver. The glass has become almost
an addiction now, albeit a good one! It's something we are passionate about. There are always surprises- mostly good ones-
and we always have more to love and learn!
PLEASE NOTE: it is very difficult to accurately display the depth,
true color, and complexities of the dichroic colors and patterns in these glass pieces in photographs.
Most glass
pieces will be much nicer and more vibrant in person...so we're sure you'll be pleased.
Most of our pendants
are made as individual paintings or as individual pieces of art and can stand on their own with little embellishment. It can
be a very labor intensive process but the results are well worth the effort! Many pendant and cabochons have several layers
of color and sparkle that change color depending on the angle of the light. Many have their own little worlds going on ....so
just a warning ...you can easily get lost in their fascinating effects (like we did)!
All our pendants, cabochons,
beads are fused, shaped, fused again, and annealed, usually through several stages in the kiln to obtain the desired shapes,
colors, and design. Items are also worked to minimize roughness and minimize bubbles. We truly care about the quality of our
final pieces and make them as wearable as they are beautiful. They do not leave our workshop unless we are happy with the
final results no matter how many times we work them and fire them!
Some pieces have dichroic layers that we have
left on the surface to display their fullest color....as part of a striking design. These will have some texture to the surface
and we will make note of these in our descriptions. Others are finished or re-fired with clear top glass.....these pieces
sparkle and can have added depth and light effects of their own. The surface of these pieces will be very smooth to the touch.
We trim all pieces and eliminate rough edges and backs so your jewelry is very comfortable and your large pieces
are ready to display.
Cabochons offered for sale also have finished edges and are immediately ready to use to
make your own creations. Most of the tops are a bit domed as is in the nature of fusing glass...so we will list dimensions
of each item. You can set the glass "stones", wire-wrap them, glue on bails to complete a pendant. Or drill holes
or re-work for your own needs.
The pendants look great strung on artsy silk cords and especially displayed on
more elegant silver or gold chains. We will be offering some chords and various chains for your convenience - sold separately
from pendants unless otherwise noted.
We do our best to bring you unique designs, striking colors. Some of the
best works have evolved lives of their own... we worked them very closely and then they dictated to us their final form. The
sometimes cute or strange name for each piece has developed from this creative process and often helps to better portray the
pieces' colors or overall feel that may get lost in the translation of a flat photo. This process is always thoughtful
and the piece definitely has the largest say in its name!
It is funny how life comes full circle. Chuck
became fascinated at the age of 7 while on a vacation to the Lost Colony and Jamesburg VA. He fell in love with the glass
blower and marveled at how something so fragile as glass could become soft as butter or as liquid as milk and then be transformed
into a completely new object. As we write this, we are staring at that piece of glass made over 45 years ago and are amazed!
Amazed that the image of a small jug or a little hand-blown unicorn can lay dormant in the mind's eye of the
child and re-emerge as a fresh creative spark so many years later to be renewed as a modern apprentice in this ancient art
of glassmaking!
We continue to explore this medium and truly hope our designs and artwork find new homes and new
creations to be part of. We love this work and hope this brings joy to others as well as continues to provide us with a lot
of hard and FUN work.....on this fascinating path!
THANKS SO MUCH and ENJOY!
